ଉର୍ଦ୍ଦୁ ଭାଷା ଭାରତ ଓ ପାକିସ୍ଥାନ ଉଭୟ ଦେଶରେ ସ୍ୱୀକୃତି ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ଏକ ସରକାରୀ ଭାଷା । ଏହାର ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷ ପାରସୀ ଭାଷା, ଆରବୀ ଭାଷା ଓ ଟର୍କିସ ଭାଷାଦ୍ୱାରା ବିକଶିତ ହୋଇଛି । ମୋଗଲ ସାମ୍ରାଜ୍ୟ ସମୟରେ ୧୫୨୬- ୧୮୫୮ ସମୟ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ଏସିଆରେ ଏହାର ବିକାଶ ହୋଇଥିଲା ।

ମୁସଲମାନ ଶାସକ ଓ ଧର୍ମପ୍ରଚାରକମାନେ କାଳକ୍ରମେ ହିନ୍ଦୁମାନଙ୍କ ଯୋଗ ଓ ବେଦାନ୍ତ ପ୍ରଭୃତି ଦର୍ଶନଶାସ୍ତ୍ର, ଚିକିତ୍ସାଶାସ୍ତ୍ର ଓ ଜ୍ୟୋତିଷଶାସ୍ତ୍ର ଅଧ୍ୟୟନ ପ୍ରତି ଆକୃଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇଥିଲେ । ଏ ଯୁଗର ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ଫାର୍ସୀକବି ଅମୀର ଖୁସ୍ରୋ ଭାରତୀୟ କାବ୍ୟ ଅନୁସରଣରେ କାବ୍ୟ ରଚନା କରିଥିଲେ । ଉତ୍ତର ଭାରତର ବହୁପ୍ରଚଳିତ ହିନ୍ଦୀ ଭାଷା ଓ ମୁସଲମାନ ସୁଲତାନମାନଙ୍କ ପୃଷ୍ଠପୋଷକତା ଲାଭ କରୁଥିବା ଫାର୍ସୀଭାଷାର ସମ୍ମିଶ୍ରଣରେ ସେ ଯୁଗରେ ଉର୍ଦ୍ଦୁ ନାମକ ଏକ ନୂତନ ଭାଷା ଉତ୍ପତ୍ତି ଘଟିଥିଲା । ଏହାହିଁ ଭାରତୀୟ ମୁସଲମାନଙ୍କର ପ୍ରଧାନ ଭାଷାରେ ପରିଣତ ହେଲା ଓ ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ କାଳରେ ଏଥିରେ ବହୁ ପୁସ୍ତକ ରଚିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା ।
