For discussion and queries, see template talk:Wi.

This template is only for dictionary definitions that currently exist on Wiktionary and which, due to previous re-creations, are likely to be re-created in unencyclopedic form. Do not place it on every possible word. This template is a self-reference and so is part of the Wikipedia project rather than the encyclopaedic content.

{{wi}} {{subst:longcomment}}
Provides a soft redirect to the Wiktionary page, using the current page's name. Then it also substitutes a {{longcomment}} to prevent a page from being listed on Special:Shortpages.
Important: Check the link before using this method, as Wiktionary uses proper capitalization for its entries, unlike Wikipedia's uppercased first letter or page name.
{{wi|{{PAGENAME}}}} {{subst:longcomment}}
Provides a link to the Wiktionary page for the given word.
{{wi|Category:English idioms|many=yes}}
Used for pages linking to lists or categories on Wiktionary.

Notes:

  1. This template should not be used via substitution in most cases.
  2. This template will categorise tagged articles into Category:Redirects to Wiktionary.
