Purpose

This template facilitates the citation of articles from editions of The American Cyclopædia. Links to Wikisource or external sources are provided for. {{cite encyclopedia}} is used for the implementation.

Usage

{{Cite Americana|put the name of the article here}}

or with a specification of additional options:

The year defaults to 1879.

Simple

displays as:

 "Rotteck, Karl von" . The American Cyclopædia. 1879.

With comment

{{Cite AmCyc|Rotteck, Karl von}} A German historian and activist for freedom of the press.

displays as:

 "Rotteck, Karl von" . The American Cyclopædia. 1879. A German historian and activist for freedom of the press.

Using noicon

{{Cite Americana|Cogniet, Leon|noicon=x}}

displays as:

"Rotteck, Karl von" . The American Cyclopædia. 1879.

Using vb

If text is incorporated verbatim into an article, the vb parameter can be used to tack on a notice appropriate to the policy in Wikipedia:Plagiarism.

displays as:

 This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain: "Rotteck, Karl von" . The American Cyclopædia. 1879.

Using title (no Wikisource link)

{{Cite AmCyc|title=Rotteck, Karl von}}

displays as:

 "Rotteck, Karl von". The American Cyclopædia. 1879.

When title is being used, url can be used to specify an external link.
