ଇତିହାସ ଅନୁସାରେ ଚାଷକାମ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଏହା ଏକ ଅଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ପଶୁ, ମାନବ ସଂସ୍କୃତିରେ ଏହା ଓତଃପ୍ରୋତ ଭାବରେ ଜଡ଼ିତ । ଆଧୁନିକ ଭାଷା ଓ ସିମ୍ବୋଲୋଜିରେ ([[:en:symbology|symbology]]) ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହାର ସ୍ତାନ ଅଛି । ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଭାଷା, ଆବ୍ରାହାମିକ ଧର୍ମ ପରମ୍ପରା, ସଂସ୍କୃତି ଓ ଗୋଲ୍ଡେନ ଫ୍ଲିସ କାହାଣୀ ଭଳି ପୁରାଣମାନଙ୍କରେ ମେଣ୍ଢାର ସ୍ଥାନ ଲିପିବଦ୍ଧ ହୋଇ ରହିଛି । ଉଭୟ ପୁରାତନ ଓ ଆଧୁନିକ ଯୁଗର ଧର୍ମକର୍ମରେ ଏହାକୁ ବଳି ଦେବା ପ୍ରଥା ଚାଲିଆସିଛି ।
