English: What is jaundice? Well, jaundice is a condition where the skin and eyes take on a yellowish color due to increased levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream. Bilirubin can be either unconjugated or conjugated; unconjugated bilirubin is produced by macrophages and conjugated bilirubin is stored in the gallbladder. Jaundice can be caused by both types of bilirubin getting into the blood, and this video covers common diseases that lead to increased serum levels of conjugated bilirubin, unconjugated bilirubin, or both. |
