English: Mahari Dancer Guru Rupashree Mohapatra has performed Mahari Dance on the occasion of Bhaja Govindam classical & folk singing festival 2016 at Muktakash Rangamancha, Puri Odisha. Maharis were the temple dancers or devadasis of the Jagannath Temple at Puri and the dance takes its name after them.Mahari dance is nearly a millennium old with dance having been an integral part of the daily rituals at the Jagannath temple of Puri since the time of Ganga rulers of Utkal.
